If anyone is in the mood to watch a chill gardening game, @gregoryaveryweir is streaming "Cloud Gardens" over on twitch:

i know people have issues with this site, but i just looked at twitter for a few minutes and people are debating the condition of a right-wing terrorist's backyard

"But if you yourself have a dangerous heart condition, that doesnโ€™t count. So your child goes to school, brings home the infection and you die. No parent should be forced to risk that. We should be given a choice."

THIS is the bit every blustering pillock who demands schools above every safety concern does not consider, or give a shit about.

A lot of us are also living with the ticking timebomb of something, having that time cut shorter is not exactly inspiring.

hey white people, the DARVO thread going around is good resources for spotting bad actors in the community that come for the BIPoC, especially the Black femmes on the fedi. if you want to help stop racists smearing reputations, its important to understand what you're dealing with

RIO DE JANEIRO โ€” The old man knew he was dying. The disease he'd been warning of for weeks had taken hold, and it wouldn't be long now. He looked to his son, who would soon be the leader of what remained of their people.
The old man was fluent in five languages, but the one he chose to speak now was one that virtually no one else in the world could understand.

โ€œAwiri nuhรฃ,โ€ Aritana Yawalapiti, 71, said in the language of the Yawalapiti, an Indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest. โ€œTake care of the people. Take care of the land. Take care of the forest.โ€

Paradise Killer

I think I could get a USB stand like and an adapter to use either my PS4 or Xbox controller, but that seems like a hefty expense for a single game. Maaaybe I should switch (haha) to the PC version, and just put this in the list of "types of games not to play on the Switch". ๐Ÿค”

Paradise Killer

I'm a couple hours in on Paradise Killer now, and I really don't like wandering around in a first-person POV using joysticks. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Looking around and aiming with my right hand is slow and jerky.

I assume console folks get used to this in their first walking sim or FPS, but I think my playthrough of Obra Dinn last year was the first FP game I played on a controller, and that was a proper PS4 controller on Steam instead of the wide and flat Switch Lite setup.

I started Paradise Killer last night and ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ. It's so pretty and weird. The worldbuilding reminds me of "Heaven Will Be Mine" right off the jump, with some shit like: "Lydia Day Break. Your oldest friend. Born in Mwana Falls, Kenya in AD 1001 under the sign of Beautiful Spectre." If that were my sign, I'd give a shit about astrology.

As a PC gamer playing my first first-person Switch Lite game, I'm struggling a bit with the controls, but it's already getting easier.

People not taking care of pets

Damn it, the same people who gave us Carrie and Fischer just left the list kitten in the courtyard when they left.

And it is chilly and wet outside.
And the kitten started following me around in the courtyard when I was outside just now.

We are barely prepared for two kittens and Javert, I don't think we can do a third one.

Fuck. Anyone in Ile-de-france or Asine who wants a cute kitten?

how the fuck do you just abandon a pet like that?

I've finally finished the GiantBomb playthrough of BMX XXX from March, and now Green Day's "Basket Case" is stuck in my head and I've lost so much respect for 311. How am I supposed to sleep tonight? :skyweary:

raised by wolves (mild spoiler)

Oh, and just one more thing: why did they basically have to invent trapping midway through this show?! Why was that kid basically considered a genius for making them when there were two grown-ass colonizing androids right there all those years? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

Anyway. Like Prometheus, I wish this had been good.

raised by wolves

But there were cool things:

* it's definitely taking (mild) shots at colonialism, religious institutions, and maybe something about gender?
* the setting/set design is interesting, even if it highlighted the bad decisions everybody made
* the Earth history we see bits of was cool. The desperation of the humans to get off world made sense, at least.
* androids with powers! ๐Ÿคฉ

I cannot imagine that season 2 will be worth watching just to have the remaining mysteries answered.

raised by wolves

The first ep was a rough ride and felt like a whole season by itself. The middle 7 were less gross and more of what I was interested in. The final 2 took me 4 days to watch.

First, things I found awful:
* gratuitous body horror
* utterly nonsensical sci-fi (and I have a high tolerance for magical sci-fi)
* humans with 0 ability to plan long term
* fixation on the ways women fuck up MoThErhOoD
* gender norms shoehorned in
* boringly bad-at-improvising androids
* rapid evolution

raised by wolves

Sooo... I heard that Raised by Wolves was like, "What if Prometheus was a TV show, and maybe good?" and got an HBO Max trial to watch it. "Prometheus" fascinated and disappointed me. What if it could be done right?

I finished it just in the nick of time to not get charged by HBO, and holy shit, that was entirely too much Prometheus/Ridley Scott. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
