馃 How do you find decent taxi companies in your city that are co-ops or unionized? Cab companies in Charlotte have *awful* websites and very bad reviews.

does anyone have some resources about indigenous history of the americas? specifically something like a podcast or recorded lectures that are free to listen to?

i'm white as hell so i don't want to step on any toes, but also... this is emphatically stuff i should know, and is a huge gap in my knowledge.

i'm disabled/often full of pain meds so i don't have the mettle to pay for and follow a proper course, but if anyone knows free resources, i'd super appreciate it.

All this exasperation around making platforms safe isn't because of the level of effort, but rather that very notion that there should more effort being placed into it at all. And that's a very specific cultural behavior.

We know this because we see effort being put into everything BUT safety and giving folks better tools to handle and deal with bad actors.

That's a choice. A choice that is being made over and over again.

The fact the software is free doesn't erase intentions and posture.

'nother little resource for learning about indigenous peoples of north america.

most maps that show where indigenous groups lived pre-contact are painfully incomplete, if not inaccurate, but this one is pretty damn good! i've seen few maps which show even one of my tribes, much less both!

Introducing Queer Cats, now with more queer and more GitHub.

There are now fifteen different queer cats (including the basic yellow one) :queercat_pride:. Please feel free to request new ones!

New shapes will be added once the bases for those is drawn.

To make all of this a bit easier for everyone I鈥檝e added them to a GitHub repository: Releases are posted as zip-files here:

Please enjoy :queercat:

So Purism's 'solution' to handling bad actors is to remove one of the main mechanisms we use to coordinate effective responses against them?

LOL, that's some bullshit. The funny part is that they're trying to present it as a reasoned decision.

This is why these spaces stay toxic. People are defending bigots instead of people that actually have something of worth to contribute.

My friend @sandro (who also was the W3C staff member on the Social Working Group as it turns out) has put together a chart about "ways to harm people online" (whether you agree all are harms, most are, and all are claimed as such) that I think is really useful:

What's interesting is that most of these are about harm caused by *distributing* information.

@pixelfed 馃 I don't always see my image's alt text show up on an image when I look via Mastodon. Is that because I took too long (several minutes) after posting on pixelfed to add it?

(I think I'll add a feat. req to github to add that field to the compose window.)
